“So happy this wedding was feature on the Knot.com. Jorge and I can be described as a laid back couple that loves to have fun, try new things, and LOVE our city. Many of our dates included discovering new things to do and new places to see in NYC. Jorge is from the Bronx and I am Queens. Jorge and I met in John Jay College in a history class in 2007. I thought he was trying to hit on my best friend but really he was asking about me and how he can contact me. A couple days later, I got a message from him on MySpace ( remember that?) and the rest is history 🙂
We always say that we were meant to meet each other sooner or later because Jorge ended up becoming one of my closest friend’s partner when he became a police officer for the NYPD.
On December 24th, 2012, we were wrapping last minute Christmas gifts when I asked Jorge to get me a new scotch tape in the other room. When he came back he wrapped his arms around me and opened his hands to reveal a diamond ring. I was speechless for a minute, which is rarely the case. The first thing that came out of my mouth was “Are you sure?!? You know I’m not the easiest person to deal with!” Thank goodness he knows me so well that he found this hilarious and said of course he was sure. He was really laughing because my parents had basically said the same exact thing to him when he asked for their blessing. He understands me and know how to deal with my very energetic, tough, and opinionated personality.
When we started to plan the wedding, there was no specific theme in mind however it was very important to me to include our support for the NYPD in our own way. I had a garter specially done with the thin blue line. The cake topper was made out of Legos and showed a police car and a Lego officer running after a thief. Officer looked like Jorge and thief looked like me :).
We wanted the wedding to show our different personalities coming together to form a beautiful and unique wedding. We decided to keep it simple and intimate just like us. We wanted the flowers to be colorful, bright and different kinds of flowers. We added floral crowns to the chairs for aisle decor that we later used again in the photo booths! They were a big hit 🙂 No big wedding party, no big catering hall, DIY projects for the escort table and decorations and little bursts of color (hence the super colorful and gorgeous flowers). We wanted an untraditional wedding in a awesome, different and rustic wedding venue. The only traditional thing I wanted was a fitted, sweetheart neckline, lace wedding dress.
Everything else in our wedding was just a tad bit different from a traditional wedding. Jorge wore a Hugo Boss blue suit and wore shoes that were half dress shoes, half sneakers (Jorge is a big sneaker fanatic). Our wedding cake was a naked cake from the awesome Brooklyn bakery Milk Momofuku. We also took first look photos in Brooklyn and Queens and used the city as a backdrop.
Our money box was hand built by my father and decorated with a frog to represent a popular Colombian game named Sapo that we always play in family BBQ’s.”
